The roads were dry, the weather was just right and the leaves were bursting with color. October 5, 2013 was a perfect day for the 21st annual NH Marathon.
A small crowd gathered at the starting line in front of Newfound Memorial Middle School to cheer on the 280 marathon runners (239 finished) and 116 runners of the 10K that registered for the race. The Newfound Regional High School band played a few tunes and then the “Star Spangled Banner” before the 9:00 a.m. starting gun. At the same time, on the other side of Newfound Lake, 180 runners were lined up by the Sculptured Rocks in Groton, NH, to run the half marathon (169 finished).
Janet Cote of The Newfound Experience was at the 1 mile marker to capture the action. CLICK HERE to view her photos on our Facebook page.
The official race photographer for the 2013 NH Marathon was PhotoChambers, www.photo-chambers.com. They took some excellent shots along different points on the marathon route as well as photos of each runner crossing the finish line.
I was also at the finish line watching, cheering and taking photos. I saw instant friendships formed, heard so many amazing stories and met some truly inspirational people. The NH Marathon attracted runners from over 40 states as well as Switzerland, Germany, South Korea and Canada.
Several runners commented that the NH Marathon was the most beautiful race they’d ever run, and one of the most difficult.
